Part 1: Learn Disadvantages of iTunes Backup

From your Mac or PC, you can make a backup of iPhone in iTunes. Syncing your device with your computer isn't the same as making a backup. An iTunes backup includes nearly all of your device's data and settings. An iTunes backup doesn't include:
1. Content from the iTunes and App Stores, or PDFs downloaded directly to iBooks.
2. Content synced from iTunes, like imported MP3s or CDs, videos, books, and photos.
3. Photos already stored in the cloud, like My Photo Stream, and iCloud Photo Library.
4. Touch ID settings.
5. Apple Pay information and settings.
6. Activity, Health, and Keychain data (To back up this content, you'll need to use Encrypted Backup in iTunes.)

Part 2: Restore Photos from iTunes Backup

Step 1. Scan and extract the iTunes backup file

Download iPhone Data Recovery software and install it on your computer. Launch the "Recover" function and move to the mode "Recover iOS Data". All the iTunes backup files on your computer will be displayed at list on the interface. Select the one including your iPhone photos and click the button "Start Scan" to extract the iTunes backup file.

Step 2. Retrieve photos from iPhone backup

When the scan completed, the program will display all found data from the iTunes backup file on the window. At the left column, choose Camera Roll, Photo Stream, App Photos under the Photos & Videos category, then you can check all the photos including the deleted photos one by one. Select the one you desire and click the button "Recover" to save them on your computer.
